Brand and Communications Manager (Local Hire)

AFI is run by a small management unit (AFI Management Unit) that provides a portfolio of value-added services for members to facilitate knowledge exchange and drive smart policy reform.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Communications, Media Relations and Events Management, the Brand and Communication Manager is primarily responsible for management, development and implementation of AFI’s branding policies, publications and exhibitions. 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of Communications and in line with the AFI Communications and Branding Policy, the incumbent will be responsible for: 

Oversight of the development, design, layout, editorial coordination and production process of AFI knowledge products by:

  • Managing the AFI Style Guide which relies on the AP Style Guide and AFI Branding Guidelines;
  • Managing the artwork for logos, banners, exhibits, videos, photo library, animations and infographics, promotional items for AFI events;
  • Coordinating development and use of AFI templates;
  • Managing development and production of AFI publication, video and photo productions;
  • Maintaining an inventory and stock of promotional support and visibility materials;
  • Closely cooperating with editors and designers, as well as other technical consultants, to ensure highest quality of each publication and outreach product;
    Participate in and advise on the selection of graphic and web designers, photographers, PR specialists, audio-video production staff and other specialists.

Coordinate AFI creative concept, visual identity and design for the annual AFI Global Policy Forum, including:

  • Managing the design and developement of GPF exhibitions, publications, infogaphics, animation, newsletter, visibility products, apps. 

Coordinate and manage AFI outreach and media relations through various platforms, by:

  • Developing and maintaining a media contacts list;
  • Promoting AFI in selected outlets from local, regional and international media.
  • Coordinating interviews for AFI’s designated spokespersons;
  • Developing and maintaining a list of contact from communications departments and units in AFI members
  • Create and maintain calendar of events, with focus on communications products and activities, with regular updates on bi-weekly/monthly basis and in coordination with different AFI Units.
  • Creating or editing AFI stories and blogs for publication, and ghostwriting Op-eds and other materials on behalf of senior AFI staff or members;
  • Liaising with AFI’s different units in the development of online content;
  • Real-time reporting while attending AFI events and activities; 
  • Drafting newsletters, press releases, news items, photo, video and publications;

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to convey complex concepts in a simple and clear manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent information technology skills, including word processing, daabase applications, presentation software, and internet.
  • Excellent online communications skills including through social media and video material products.  
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrates professional competence and is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree in communications, journalism or public relations.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and public relations.
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use software such as Microsoft Package, Photo Shop, Prezi, Adobe, etc, online platforms, social media.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of other languages is advantage.
