Web Content Writer


The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) is the world’s leading organization on financial inclusion policy and regulation. A member-owned network, AFI promotes and develops evidence-based policy solutions that help to improve the lives of the poor. AFI members are at the forefront of successful financial system reforms and have the unique experience to help shape the emerging regulatory response. Many of the most effective financial inclusion policies have been innovated, supported and implemented by AFI member institutions, and offer valuable lessons for any country interested in reducing poverty. Together, AFI members are working to unlock the potential of the world’s 2 billion unbanked through the power of financial inclusion. AFI is run by a management unit (AFI Management Unit) that provides a portfolio of value-added services for members to facilitate knowledge exchange and drive smart policy reform. Over the next five years (Phase 3 Strategic Plan, 2019-2023), AFI is working on issuing Financial Inclusion Policy Models for guidance and on in country implementation support. The AFI is looking for a web writer who can produce a diverse content for the Web, including news, blogs, short success stories, newsletters as well as review and copy edit short publications as required and needed. 


Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Reporting to the Head of Communications, Media Relations and Events Management and working with AFI events calendar, the Web Content Writer is primarily responsible for creating a variety of online content including: 
  • Writing news, interviews, blogs, success stories, scripts, newsletters, marketing copy when needed, social media posts that enrich AFI online presence. 
  • To produce fast and accurate desired format (news, blogs, success stories, scripts, short reports), she/he should be able to conduct research on financial inclusion and related topics by combining studies, variety of AFI content, speeches, agendas, online sources, including social media posts. 
  • Ghostwriting Op-eds and other materials on behalf of senior AFI staff or members 
  • Proofread and edit blog posts before publication.
  • Copy edit shorter reports and publications, such are the Guideline notes or Case studies.
  • Convert longer content to a format that visitors can download
  • Identify  needs and gaps in AFI online content and recommend new topics and products.
  • Update website content
  •  Measure the effectiveness of content through online web traffic, distribution at events and comparison with competitors, and when necessary, improve content to boost popularity
  • Work closely with AFI Digital Communications Manager to strengthen AFI online content, increase its share of voice and promote content on social media
  • Work closely with AFI Brand and Communications Manager to ensure all-around consistency with AFI writing and branding guidlinelines (style, fonts, images, tone, branding)
  • Closely cooperate with AFI technical staff and technical consultants to ensure highest quality of each news piece, blog, publication, etc
  • The candidate should possess appropriate interpersonal skills to efficiently work with variety of interviewees, contributors and designers. The first two can range from heads of national, regional or global financial institutions and contributors, to the Alliance’s policy managers.
  •  She/he must have good organizational skills to gather and verify material from multiple sources and create web content within tight deadlines, in high paced environment. Web Content Writer through clear online management, development and implementation of AFI’s branding policies, publications and exhibitions.
  • The candidate should be well versed in special requirements of writing for the Web, including the use of keywords, hyperlinks, navigation, importance of brevity.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in journalism, literature, communications or public relations.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in writing and editing and/or news room, media
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use software such as Microsoft Package, Photo Shop, Prezi, Adobe, etc, online platforms, social media.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other languages is advantage.
