Programme Officer, Gender Inclusive Finance


The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) is a global network of financial policymakers and regulators, i.e. central banks, ministries of finance, and other regulatory bodies from developing and emerging countries.  The AFI Network aims to increase access to and usage of appropriate and high-quality financial services for the poor. With 123 member institutions covering more than 85% of the world’s unbanked, AFI provides its members with the knowledge, tools, and resources to develop, share, and implement evidence-based financial inclusion policies. Since its inception in 2009, AFI has pioneered approaches to knowledge exchange among policymakers and stakeholders, both worldwide and regionally. Originally a project of GIZ and a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grantee, AFI became an independent international organization in 2016.

The Gender Inclusive Finance team will comprise of three staff (the Head of Gender Inclusive Finance; Policy Analyst, and Programme Officer) and is responsible for successful delivery of all of AFI’s women’s financial inclusion and gender focused work activities, as well as developing AFI’s policy work in the areas of highest demand amongst members.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Programme Officer will assist the Gender Inclusive Finance team in:

-       Taking the lead role in logistical organization of AFI’s gender inclusion programs, to include advertising the programs with AFI’s members, venue liaison and logistics, on the ground event support at specified trainings and administration of travel sponsorships for participating AFI members;

-       Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with AFI member institutions and AFI’s public-private dialogue partners with whom the programs are co-hosted; 

-       Supporting the Head of Gender Inclusive Finance in preparing content and modalities for the AFI gender inclusion programs, include input and guidance into AFI’s online training modules;

-       Supporting management of the new AFI online data portal, in particular assisting to collect and analyze information from AFI members, and answering members queries in relation to the portal;  

-       Working with the team’s policy analysts to conduct research to support content development in areas such as women’s financial inclusion, green finance, and the relationship between financial inclusion and financial stability.

-       Support the Head of Gender Inclusive Finance in team administration, for example tracking spend against the team’s budgets.

-       Provide support in the team’s internal and external communications, e.g. correspondence with members and partners, online member zone. 

-       Provides support in organizing the program for AFI’s policy brown bag discussions.


The Programme Officer will contribute to:

-       The successful running and expansion of AFI’s gender inclusive finance program;

-       The successful establishment and running of AFI’s gender inclusive finance activities and connect with the capacity building team to support the development of training modules;

-       The support and growth of AFI’s data portal;

-       High quality research support and policy analysis across financial inclusion policy areas;

-       High quality knowledge products;

-       Excellent stakeholder relationships both internally and externally, particularly with AFI’s members, public-private dialogue partners, and other training partners.



      -       University Degree (BA/BSc) and idelally at least two years of professional


-       Very good command of English – both oral and written

-       Excellent organization and attention to detail

-       Highly motivated self-starter

-       Ability to multi-task and self-manage

-       Solid analytical and research skills

-       Excellent project management skills

-       Good working knowledge of software/computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

-       Ability and experience in organizing events and meetings

-       Good interpersonal and intercultural skills

-       Positive attitude and collaborative team spirit

-       Interest in social impact and financial inclusion

-       Ability to work in a fast paced, small team
